Complex Structures and Mechanical Metamaterials

We study mechanical structures that exhibit strong dispersion effects or striking nonlinear phenomena — including elastic wave propagation in granular media, soft nonlinear solids, multistable structures, flexible metamaterials, and topological crystals.

Our work has applications in soft robotics, vibration mitigation, and energy harvesting. We also develop platforms that provide mechanical analogies with biomechanical processes, offering new ways to understand the behavior of the human body.
